Title: On some stage-structured models for the evolution of continuous traits

Speaker: Yuan Lou

Bio: Prof. Lou received his Ph.D from University of Minnesota in 1995. He worked as a postdoctoral fellow at MSRI and University of Chicago from 1995-1998. From 1998 to 2021, he was a faculty member in the Department of Mathematics of Ohio State University. He served as Deputy Director of Mathematical Biosciences Institute from 2009-2013. He is now a Chair Professor of School of Mathematical Sciences, Shanghai Jiao Tong University. His research interest is on reaction-diffusion equations with applications in biology. He has published more than 140 papers in related areas. He is currently on the editorial boards of J. Differential Equations, European Appl. Math Journal, J. Math. Biol., SIAM J. Appl. Math, and he is also Co Editor-in-chief of DCDS-B.

Abstract:  In this talk I will discuss some stage-structured differential equation models for the evolution of continuous traits in biology. The first model concerns the evolution of dispersal in heterogeneous environment, and the second model concerns the growth of stem cells. We are interested in finding “optimal” traits via the study of these structured models.
