Title: Artificial Intelligence and Scientific Computing
Speaker: Pingbing Ming
Abstract: This talk focuses on the integration of artificial intelligence and scientific computing, specifically numerical methods for partial differential equations based on deep learning. It explores the current research status, challenges faced, and development trends of this topic.
Bio: Dr. Pingbing Ming is a Senior Research Fellow at the Academy of Mathematics and Systems Science, Chinese Academy of Sciences, and currently serves as the Deputy Director of the State Key Laboratory of Scientific and Engineering Computing. His main research interests are in solid multi-scale modeling, simulation, and scientific machine learning. He has made significant contributions to the mathematical theory of the Cauchy-Born rule and in the theoretical prediction of graphene’s ideal strength. In 2014, he was awarded the National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars, selected for the fourth batch of the National “Ten Thousand Talent Program” for young and middle-aged science and technology innovators in 2019, and won the 15th “Feng Kang Prize in Scientific Computing” in 2023. He was elected as a Fellow of the China Society for Industrial and Applied Mathematics in 2024. He was invited to give plenary talks at SCADE 2009, The SIAM Mathematics Aspects of Materials Science 2016, and other conferences.
