Title: 从上海童年到数学殿堂：我走过的路

Speaker: Roderick Wong (Fellow of the Royal Society of Canada; Distinguished Visiting Fellow, Duke Kunshan University; Emeritus Professor, City University of Hong Kong)

Abstract: 在上海出生并度过童年、在香港完成中学教育之后，我远赴美国加州求学，完成大学学位；继而前往加拿大攻读博士学位，并在当地开始了我的高校教学与研究生涯。在加拿大工作、生活近二十五年后，我回到香港，加入香港城市大学，先后承担数学系建设、科研工作以及大学管理等多重角色，又在城大度过了将近二十五年的光阴。退休之后，我再次回到加拿大，开启人生新的阶段。

在这次面向杜克大学昆山校区同学的讲座中，我将以一位“老数学家”的亲身经历，与你们分享自己在中、美、加、港多地求学与工作的曲折旅程，在不同文化与体制中坚持对数学的兴趣与热情，在科研与大学行政之间寻找平衡，以及在重要人生抉择中的思考与得失。我也会谈到从事数学研究和参与大学发展过程中一些有趣的故事与体会，并结合自己的经验，和同学们交流如何规划学业与事业、如何面对迷惘与机会，希望能为你们未来的人生道路带来一些启发与思考。

Bio: An internationally recognized scholar, Prof. Wong is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Canada (1993) and a member of the Academy of Sciences of Turin (2001) and the European Academy of Sciences (2007). Among his many honors, he received the Kilam Research Fellowship (1982-1984), the Rh Award (1984), the French Chevalier dans l’Ordre National de la Légion d’Honneur (2004), and an honorary doctorate from Ovidius University, Romania (2008).
