Speaker:  Dr. Feng Shen, Executive Vice President, Chairman of the Quality Management Committee, NIO

Abstract: In his talk, Dr. Feng Shen will share his insights into the industry’s transformative journey drawing on over 20 years of experience in the automotive sector. He will examine the seismic shifts in automotive technology, from the transition to electric powertrains to the integration of intelligent systems. Dr. Shen will also highlight the evolving supply chain landscape, emphasizing the need for sustainability and the emergence of new players. Central to his talk is the profound impact of smart electric vehicles on human mobility, illustrating how these innovations are revolutionizing the driving experience and reshaping urban environments. By offering a glimpse into the future, Dr. Shen aims to highlight both the immense opportunities for growth and the challenges that lie ahead in this dynamic new era of automobiles.

Bio: Dr. Feng Shen joined NIO in December 2017, and currently serves as executive vice president and chairman of quality management committee. Dr. Shen worked in several senior executive management roles, such as president of Polestar China and global chief technology officer at Polestar, president at Volvo Cars China R&D Company, vice president of Volvo Cars Asia-Pacific Operation, and chairman at China-Sweden Traffic Safety Research Center from 2010 to 2017. Prior to that, Dr. Shen served in various roles, including powertrain manager and six-sigma quality management master, at Ford Motor Company from 1999 to 2010 in the United States and China.

Dr. Shen received a bachelor’s degree in mathematics and mechanics and a master’s degree in applied mechanics from Fudan University in 1984 and 1987, respectively. He also received a doctoral degree in mechanical engineering from Auburn University in 1996. He has received many international and domestic honors and awards. In 2020, Dr. Shen was conferred fellowship by China Society of Automotive Engineers (China-SAE), the highest honor for individual members, and serves as a member of the standing committee of China-SAE. In 2023, he was honored as the Remarkable Scientific and Technological Worker of the 60th Anniversary of China-SAE. He was appointed the Vice President of International Federation of Automotive Engineering Societies (FISITA) for Industry Committee, and received the 2022 Academy of Technical Leadership Award from FISITA, in recognition of his efforts in driving continuous innovation and promoting excellence in mobility engineering.
